The Victorian Sub-Aqua Group (VSAG) usually plans shore and boat dives around Port Phillip Bay and outside of the heads in Bass Strait. We mostly use the services of members' private boats. The boats are typically fast deep-Vee fibreglass hull types in excess of 4.5 metres (15 feet) long. All are fitted with 2-way radios, depth sounders and most have GPS navigation aids. VSAG has DAN first aid kits and oxygen kits which are shared around between the boats so as to ensure the aids are on hand if required. The VSAG member boats are driven by some of the most experienced boat drivers and divers in Victoria. Our members know the best dive sites, ones not often visited by charter operators.
Club dive days are typically organised each Sunday in summer, and fortnightly in winter. Most dive days start from one of the local Boat Launching Ramps (e.g. Sorrento and/or Queenscliff). We generally go out for the entire day, taking two dive cylinders each with us, plus our lunch. We do an unhurried morning dive, then find somewhere quiet and sunny to rest for lunch, and follow up with a second dive in the afternoon. Some members have been known to fit in a dive at the lunch site. Others sometimes do a shore dive to finish off the day.
On every long weekend, we typically have dive trips to other more distant Victorian locations such as Phillip Island, Barwon Heads, Wilsons Promotory etc.
As well, many members of the club dive with each other on non-club planned dives. These are on members' boats or quite often, shore dives.
VSAG is one of the most active clubs in the Melbourne area. However, we always abide by the club motto of "Safety in Diving" and follow the club's Safety Diving Guidelines.
