Just in from Dave Bryant...

Hello fellow Swampies!!!

Can't believe it's almost the end of May... oh well, I guess summer will be just around the corner and we'll be back into 20 plus degree water... yummie!

I've just come back from an 8 day diving trip to Bali...
I know some of you have been there too. One of our members, Melissa from Wonthaggi even learnt a great deal more about manual exposure, etc from diving at Telumben.

I dived with Mary malloy and Alan Bekhurst from Queenscliff as they had won a trip from a Sportdiving mag competition.
I did 16 dives, all 5 star accomm, meals, airfares, etc, etc for just over $2,500.

I would love to plan a trip back there in a year or so, possibly with some of our Swamp members, as the photography there is spectacular and the creatures, as elusive as they are, amazing to photograph.
I managed to shoot Harlequin Shrimps, Leaf Scorpionfish, Ghost Pipefish, Frogfish, countless Nudibranchs, 17 manta's, and these were shallow dives.
Then we did the wreck at Telumben with masses of big-eye trevally, barra, pigmy seahorse, and too many other species to mention.

I'm sure a few ofyou might be interested if we were able to work out an itinerary incorporating Telumben and Secret Bay, the best of Muck Diving, Wide Angle and Macro... awesome! We dived with Aquamarine and I would look at using them again, however I'm sure many of you who have dived Bali have dived with other operators too!

NOW, back to SWAMP... and the plan for this Sunday, the 27th!

We will once again meet at Scuba Doctor at 10am... I think we should look at diving Portsea Pier, as there have been sightings of large cuttlefish of late, and as we've had some strong winds this week, vis at Blairgowrie and Rye may be a bit limited.
This week is an open photo comp... submit your best photo on DiveOz website under SWAMP 27th May section and we can all vote on one another's pictures.

I am still yet to award the best "weedfish" shot from last month but I think I recall giving it to James. I'll have to surprise him with a Toblerone or something... maybe to slow him down for this Sunday's dive!!

To all new members, and there are a few this month, we managed to get in two dives at our April get together, including a back beach dive... who knows what this Sunday might hold for us but I'm hoping for lots of sunshine.

The last two socials have seen Scuba Doctor supply a BBQ and last month, Peter and Karen from Werribbee had a warm seafood soup on tap when we got back from our first dive. I can't promise anything this Sunday as Peter Fear and a bunch of divers are off to Fiji, so we'll have run of the shop, so to speak. If you want munchies, bring a pack of chips and lunch will need to be bought by yourselves too... future socials will feature a BBQ again but for now it's BYO.

So, let's hope for good weather, sunshine and a great day's socialising.
I am in Melbourne Thursday night and won't get to check emails till Friday evening. Rain, Hail or Shine, I will be there on Sunday, sipping a coffee, nervously awaiting all of you, once again hoping I remember your names!!!

This will be our third social gathering and already we have 25+ members but who's counting? I just know I am getting one or more emials each week from new divers, showing interest in SWAMP from around Melbourne.

It's great to have you all along, supporting the idea, meeting new dive buddies and photographic nuts... so far, so goodI think.

It's now almost midnight and I have to be up early so I'll sign off here and hope to see you on Sunday. Large or small, our group will have a great time I'm sure!

All the best,

Dave Bryant.
