Poor weather reports for Sunday 21/01 resulted in the dive being changed to Saturday 20/01 at the general meeting Thursday prior... good decision as it turned out as Sunday was a real blow out!!
Full report on the dive will appear in the next editon of Fathoms however a brief overview is this...
Rained on and off all through the day but not any real discomfort... thank you weather God!!
Two boats, 9 divers and very beautiul calm conitions on the bay. Awesome Reef was the dive site and we all dived this magic place.... slack water... great viz... a cray or two seen in the deep ledges... divers full of smiles and excitement having dived safely on this 30 metre dive site!
Checking the shipping movement with Lonsdale Lighthouse (CH 12 VHF) for this dive just west of the shipping channel had us believing two ships were due "OUTSIDE "... Spirit of Tasmania" at 11.30PM and a Chinese vessel at 1.45PM... wrong! SOT came DOWN the channel so did the other vessel... we had the emergency diver retrieval plan in place but the vessel turned east negating the need to interupt the dive... very concerning at having been given wrong shipping advice!!! All on board were doubly checked that what we heard was wrong info!
Back to The Scuba Doctor for air fills and a coldie... for the Boaties this place will have a boat drive through almost ready soon... drive in... have a coldie and drive out... doesn't get any better that this for Melbourne divers.
