SS Alert found by Southern Ocean Exploration Sun, 03 Jun 2007 11:59 AM

After four years of research, a team from Southern Ocean Exploration (SOE) dived the SS Alert today.
The site was located several weeks ago using side scan sonar. We are able to confirm that the vessel at the site is actually the SS Alert after two teams were able to successfully complete the 77m dive to the wreck. The teams were able to capture both High Definition and Standard Definition footage of the site.
We were pleasantly surprised by the condition of the site, especially with the bow and stern being fully intact and several areas of penetration requiring further investigation. Items sighted on the initial dive included several portholes, various bottles, deck toilet, and lifeboat davits - still in situ.
I would like to thank all SOE members that contributed to the success of this project.
